Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti (sometimes pronounced as Balmiki Jayanti) celebrates the birthday of famous poet Valmiki, Who is also known as Adi kavi or first poet as he discovered the first Sloka, Ie, the first verse which set the base of Sanskrit poetry. It falls on the full moon day (Purnima) in the month of Ashwin. In 2024, Valmiki Jayanti is celebrating on October 31. This day is specially very popular in the Northern India and is known as “Pargat Diwas”. Valmiki is the author of the famous Hindu Epic Ramayana and one of the greatest saints of the ancient world.He is considered as a great philosopher, author,mentor,social reformer&so on.
He was basically related to Havani Village of Mulabagilu Taluk in Kolar District.His father name was Prachetasena.Valmiki is well known for his Sanskrit 'Ramayana' .It is being translated into many languages around the world.
He was named Valmiki because in Sanskrit language Valmiki means 'ant-hill'. Once an ant-hill built over him when he sat for meditation.This showed that he had entirely involved in his meditation.
According to the Hindu Mythology it is believed that Valmiki gave shelter to Seeta in his own ashram and Luva- Kusha were also born and brought-up here. His complete life and teachings have always encouraged Humans to fight against the society injustice.
