About Babu Jagjivan Ram:
A beginner of Green Revolution.
Today on 5 Apr 2024,we are observing 118th Birth Anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram.He was (a known dalit political leader) born on 5th April in 1908 in Chandwa a small village in Shahabad district now named Bhojpur in Bihar State.
His birthday was observed as 'Samata Diwas'.This day is so called to match his belief of bringing equality among all in the society.
Father : Shobhi Ram was in British army where he learnt English and became proficient in it.
Mother: Vasanti Devi.
Brothers&Sisters: He had a elder brother Sant Lal and three Sisters.
Spouses : He was married Indrani Devi on June 1, 1935(His second wife). (His first wife died in 1933).
Son: Suresh.
Daughter : Meira.
He got B.Sc degree from Banaras Hindu University.
Babu Jagjivan Ram endearingly called 'Babuji' was a Freedom Fighter and a crusader for Social Justice.
In 1937 he elected to Bihar Legislative Assembly.
In 1946 he became the youngest minister in Jawaharlal Nehru Governemnt , the first Union Cabinet as Labour Minister after Independence.
He became the first non congress party (Socialist Janata Party) Deputy PM of India during Mar 1977-Aug 1979.
On 24 January 1979 he became Deputy Prime Minister of the country in addition to charge of Defence Minister.
In 1980 he formed Congress(J).
Last Breath : July 6,1986.
